30/31 August - Nice France

30/31 August Nice France

We left Mestre early for Venice Marco Polo Airport. We checked in amazingly fast, then had some breaky and then on the Easyjet plane on time at 9am. It was a great flights across the north part of Italy.

We had a perfect landing in Nice after the 1 hour flight. The airport was a pretty flash airport. We caught the airport bus into the city. Wow it was hustle and bustle and very colorful. We got dropped off at the edge of the "old town" where we are staying and walked to our apartments. We are staying in the old town, a part of Nice which dates back to medieval times. It is the place to stay in Nice, next to the ocean and the port.

The walk was about half a kilometre through narrow lanes lined with 3 to 4 storey colorful buildings and little restaurants and cafes and shops.

The manager was there waiting for us and she showed us into our apartments in Rue du Chateau. Amazing that she was english, same age as mum and used to live in the same area in Newcastle England at the same time that mum did.

Our apartments are fab refurbished apartments in very old buildings. Nathan, Alana and Ben are in the one bedroom apartment on the first floor. Mum, dad and us girls are in a 3 bed apartment on the second floor.

We got comfy in our apartments then went to Cours Saleya, the main restaurant and markets street next to the beach and had lunch in a restaurant then went to the supermarket in Garabaldi Square and bought some food for the week. We then went walking along the famous Promenarde de Anglais along the beach. It is the famous street that runs along the edge of the beach for few kilometres. The beach has been voted one of the best three beaches in the world.

It was amazing, colorful, lots of people swimming, walking, biking, rollerblading, sunbaking, playing beach volleyball. There was things happening everywhere. The views were amazing. We took some pics and played for a while. We went swimming at the beach in the Mediteranean Sea. The beach was not sand, it was large pebbles. The water was warm and a tourquoise blue. No waves though. The sky was cloudy but it was warm.

We went home and made dinner and had a big dinner with Nathan, Alana and Ben. We had Spaghetti Bolognaise. We had a great sleep in lovely beds.

The next morning we were up early and had a big breaky. We all went to the beach about a 2 minute walk from our apartment. We had great fun playing in the warm blue water. It was blue sky, sunny and getting pretty hot, about 30 degrees. We sunbaked and swam till lunch time. We walked along the Cours Saleya and looked at the restaurants and markets. The famous flower and produce markets were on. We had gelati ice-creams.

We had a big meat and salad lunch. Then mum and Nathan went shopping. Nathan had to buy his train ticket to Paris to fly home in a week. Us girls and dad went exploring. We walked up the hill next to our apartment and checked out the amazing views of the beach, town, the ocean, the mountains behind us and over the other side of the hill the port of Nice. We played in the park for a while and had a twister ice-block.

We walked down the port side of the hill and around the walkway around the point between the port and the beach. The views were amazing. We met mum walking around the point. We walked back along the beach and through some narrow streets then back to our apartment.

There was a brief storm in the afternoon that cooled things down.

We rested for an hour or so playing in our apartment then mum made a big dinner including chicken and beef tacos and burritos. We had dinner all together again and that was great fun.

We had a great couple of days and we are looking forward to the next few days of sun and beach and exploring. We think we might go to Cannes and St Tropez on the train one day and spend the day at the beach (St Tropez is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches). We are going to Monte Carlo in Monaco tomorrow and the next day as dad and Nathan are registering then racing in the Monaco Tristar triathlon.

More from the French Riviera soon.
