Sunday 19 August - Catch up with family at Tynemouth

Sunday 19 August Tynemouth Newcastle

Today we met up with lots of Mum's family at a beach called Tynemouth in Newcastle England. We met at a place called the Priory which is an old fortress overlooking the Tyne river and North sea. The Priory is in ruins now but it has a history dating back over 2000 years.

We had a walk around then decided to go for lunch. At lunch there was Mum's Aunty Kate, Uncle Jim and Mum's cousin Thomas and Cousin Joe, Joe's wife Becky and their daughter Bonny and sons' Billy and Eddie. We had met Joe, Bec and the kids in New Zealand a few years ago so it was really nice to see them again. Mum's cousin Thomas had also been out to Australia before so it was good to see him too.

We had fish and chips for lunch and then had a walk through town. We went to a place called the Green Ginger which was an old church that had been turned into shops. There was a sweet shop there where Jim bought some sour lollies. They were so sour, most of us couldn't even eat them. Mum, Dad and Thomas said there were ok once you got the sour coating off!! We also walked through the markets which were actually on a metro (train) station platform.

After the markets, Kate, Jim and Thomas had to go home so we went for a walk along the beach. Joe took all of us kids while Mum, Dad and Bec went and got the cars and met us at another place along the beach. The water was freezing cold so we only paddled, it was still fun though ... we got quite wet.

When we were finished at the beach we went back to Joe and Becs for a cuppa. Joe's mum Helen called in to say hi too so it was a really nice day. After the tea we headed back to Sharon's for dinner and then off to bed.

We had another great day.

Elodie, Holly and Erin :)

  1. well my darling girls, in my old stomping ground, with my family ! How lovely this blog is for me, and I look forward to hearing all about it when you get home. we all used to go to Marshalls for fish and chips, then have the obligatory walk along Long Sands - it can be pretty chilly down there..England beaches would be perfect if the weather/water was warmer for several months in a row!!! I loved the pics of Ed and Bill with Uncle Jims sour sweets - did you try them?!! At Tynemouth Metro station, where the markets are, is an Italian restaurant, and that is where I had my family farewell meal in March - with all the people you were there with - how fab!!! Glad Joes mum Helen got to meet you girls - and see Chels again - and I love the photo of all you kids on the stairs - I stay at Joes quite a lot and love it. You all looked like you had a really good time xxx
