10 July from Paris to Annecy

10 July – Arrival in Annecy

Today we drove from Paris to Annecy in the French Alps. It took about 6 hours. Getting out of Paris was a little complex but mum and dad nailed it. We stopped a few times for snacks and lunch. We drove through some beautiful countryside, lots of rolling hills, a patchwork of colours (greens, browns, yellows), sunflower paddocks, forests, vineyards, castles, and little villages all along. Then the Alps were in front of us. We arrived about 6pm and got into our apartment at Seynod. It is on a hill overlooking the French Alps and the skyline of Annecy. Our apartment is pretty flash. Ben and Lavina our friends arrived soon after and we went out to get some groceries and for dinner at a restaurant. We had spaghetti and dad and Ben and Lavini had escargot (snails). Urr! We weren’t game to try them. Dad said they were a bit like chicken but had heaps of garlic on them. He had to get them out of the shell with a little fork.

Annecy is sometimes called the Venice of the Alps. It has canals, buildings that are on the edge of the canals, heaps of little pedestrian bridges and a large lake. The lake is said to be the prettiest and cleanest in Europe. It is a great place for bike riding and walking and water sports. It is a winter base for skiing in the Alps.

It was a beautiful warm night and we stayed out till late. We planned our Tour De France strategy for the next day.

I really hope you are taking lots of photos to show me xx I am laughing at your Dads face, eating snails!!....and if you girls do eat some, when you get the courage, you must never complain when I try and give you a fresh vegetable juice!!!! snails indeed....I will try and find some when I am doing your garden, so you can have some on arrival back home - you would like that, wouldn't you??!!! The lake sounds amazing too - the cleanest in Europe - could you see the bottom? xxx
