San Gimignano + Elodie

San Gimignano (17 June Erin's Birthday) It is Erin's birthday today. We had a big morning with presents and a big brekky. We had a swim in the pool. Later we went to the village of San Gimignano, a medieval town on top of a hill in Tuscany, Italy. We got to San Gimignano at around 10:30am and stayed for about 3 hours. We walked the streets and looked at all the medieval buildings and piazzas. Lots of towers and churches - the churches had incredible paintings and structures inside.

There was a medieval festival on. We watched a parade about medieval times and life in the village. The people wore very basic clothes back then. After the parade then we went and had a further look around.

Lots of buildings had flags hanging off flag holders. There were mainly four colours - green, red, blue and yellow. The flags marked out the different pathways to take. We had lunch there. After a while we found an icecream (gelato) shop. I got two scoops like mum and the girls except Dad, he got FIVE scoops!!!!! I got coffee and tiramisu. Mmmmmmmm!!!!!! After that we walked back to the car to go home. On the way back we went to the shops. When we got home we made dinner. Steak and vegetables. Then we had icecream cake for Erin's bday!! :):):)

Fact File Did you know that the history of San Gimignano begins around the 10thcentury!! There once was 72 medieval towers but now there is only 14 towers left due to damage during wars with neighbouring communes and deterioration!! San Gimignano stands 334m above sea level but it snows here sometimes in winter!!!
